Women at SB
Empowering women in our field with joint efforts
Our mission is to create a workplace that promotes inclusivity, representation, and success for all women. W@SB supports Semler Brossy’s diversity and inclusion goals, as well as supporting personal growth and development, which aligns closely with Semler Brossy’s values. W@SB hosts quarterly events to discuss relevant topics and share experiences to develop a close community of support.
W@SB invited Lynn Baranski (Managing Director at Blackrock), Shannon Sullivan (CHRO at Dave, former CHRO at Hulu), and Kristin Chambers (VP, Strategic Initiatives at McKesson) to speak to us about their experiences as women in the workplace.
In light of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent social and racial justice movement, we discussed the movie 13th, which discusses the connections between mass incarceration and racial inequality in the U.S. Participants were broken into breakout rooms of 5-6 people to help foster discussion and used the Influence Film Club discussion guide to help ground the conversations.
W@SB discussed the movie Miss Representation which covers how the portrayal of women in media often makes it difficult for women to feel powerful and achieve leadership positions. While the film was released back in 2011, it is still, if not even more so, relevant in this day and age.
Participants gathered to discuss Paula Stone Williams’ TEDx Talk “I’ve lived a man & a woman – here’s what I learned”. As a transgender woman, Paula Stone Williams has lived as both a man and a woman and shares her wisdom in this talk.
